Zion Williamson cards tips and a few more awesome NBA cards deals

Perfect NBA cards tricks? The 1980s and early 1990s produced some fantastic sets. They also produced a lot of cards. If you’ve been hoarding a stash of cards away for the past 30 years as part of your retirement fund, you’re likely going to be disappointed. Exceptions exist, but for the most part cards from this era are tough to sell for any real amount of money. The reason is basic supply and demand. Most everyone who wants 1991 Pro Set Football has it. On top of that are cases and cases sitting unopened in closets, basements, storage lockers and warehouses. Simply put, there’s tons of it out there and nobody’s buying. Perhaps the best thing you can do with most of these cards is to pull them out and look through them. Get a sense of what made you excited to collect. Enjoying those cards covers everything except that pesky money-making part.

Is Professional Grading Worth It? Companies such as Beckett and Collectors Universe provide professional grading services; that is, an independent organization that will, for a fee, grade your card (either through a hobby shop, by mail or at a show) and provide a rating of your card. Most grading services are identified by a 3 or 4 letter anagram (Beckett Grading Services—BGS, Professional Sportscard Authenticators—PSA) and most have a rating scale of 10 (some have a scale of 100) ranging from Poor (1) to Gem-Mint or Pristine (10). In addition, these companies add additional codes to indicate other defects, such as “OC” for off-center cards. Most grading companies issue “population reports”, which tell collectors how many of a given card has been given a certain grade, so a collector can see how scarce a card is in a given grade.

The 1986 Fleer Michael Jordan rookie card has earned its place as the hobby’s most important modern sports card due to Jordan’s legendary heroics. On a per-game basis, no one averaged more points than Jordan’s 30.12 points per making him the game’s most feared offensive weapons of all-time. Watching Jordan play was really something special as you knew he could do something amazing and never seen before at any given moment. His popularity has skyrocketed the value of his rookie card but those multi-colored borders can prevent some tough wear challenges. Watch out, though, as the extreme popularity of this card also makes it one of the hobby’s most counterfeited.
