Rent a car and what can you see in Europe? Now, this is a gem – one of the best Croatia destinations that a tourist can select. The question is, ‘what’s so special about this national park?’. This national park has been listed since 1979 as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is a place where 16 crystalline lakes form a surreal atmosphere. All these lakes are connected with each other with waterfalls. It is not a free place to roam around and requires visitors to buy a ticket. The best way to wander around the park is on foot, and it will take approximately 6 hours or so. But it is worth the time spent. With more than 120 bird species and resident wolves and bears, this national park never fails to woo the travelers who travel to Croatia. Just one thing to remember – swimming isn’t allowed in any of the lakes. Also, those who want to explore via buses and boats, they are most welcome to do so with free services provided by the park.

The Parc des Buttes-Chaumont is the centrepiece of the north-eastern Belleville neighbourhood. It’s perhaps a little less formal than other green spaces in Paris, but so worth the uphill stroll. It’s often missed by weekenders keen not to stray too far from the tourist loop, but this 19th arrondissement beauty is one of the city’s most magical spots. The park, with its meandering paths, waterfalls, temples and cliffs, was designed by Adolphe Alphand for Haussmann, and was opened as part of the celebrations for the Exposition Universelle in 1867.

Sharing the UNESCO listing of the Hagar Qim site, the Mnajdra Temples are found 500 meters away from the Hagar Qim Temples. This archaeological site is in an isolated and rugged stretch of Malta’s southern coast overlooking the sea. The site includes three buildings facing a common oval forecourt and may have been part of a larger complex. The oldest structure, the South Temple, dates to around 3600 to 3200 BC. The other two temples were built between 3150 BC and 2200 BC. These three structures represent a significant stage in prehistoric human development known as the Ggantija Phase (circa 3000 BC to 2200 BC), which was an important period of the Maltese Bronze Age. The most intriguing feature of Mnajdra Temples is the Solstices and Equinoxes doorway seen in the South Temple. Enter the South Temple through a monumental facade. On the left-hand side of the two apses is a decorated porthole doorway (a square-shaped opening), which leads into a small chamber. This doorway and the decorated blocks mark the position of the Equinoxes, the rising sun on the first day of spring and autumn, and the Solstices, the first day of summer and winter. On the River Noord between Rotterdam and Dordrecht is the famous village of Kinderdijk (“Children’s Dike”), which takes its name from an incident during the St. Elizabeth’s Day flood of 1421 after a child’s cradle had been stranded on the dike. The big draw these days are the fantastically preserved 18th-century windmills. Now UNESCO World Heritage Sites, the 19 Kinderdijk windmills, built between 1722 and 1761, are the largest surviving concentration of windmills in the Netherlands. Originally used to drain the fenlands, these majestic buildings with their impressive 92-foot sails are open to the public from April to October, including special Mill Days when the sails are set in motion.
